EnergySage teams up with World Wildlife Fund to help Americans combat climate change

Solar Comparison Shopping Platform Facilitates Solar Power Installations, Sustainability Efforts

CAMBRIDGE, MA – December 5, 2013

Cambridge, MA-based EnergySage, an online solar PV comparison-shopping platform, today announced a new partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that makes it easier than ever for Americans to install rooftop solar on their homes and reduce their personal contribution to climate change.

The partnership is designed to help Americans contribute to sustainability efforts while lowering their home or business’ energy bills. An average residential solar PV system will avoid more than 141 tons of carbon emissions over its lifetime—the equivalent of planting 3,314 trees or taking 27 cars off the road. It also will generate returns on investment for the property owner between 10%-30% annually.

“By helping people live more sustainably and take action against climate change, EnergySage and WWF are working together to safeguard our planet,” comments Vikram Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of EnergySage. “By simplifying the comparison-shopping process for solar power systems, we believe that we can affect substantial increases in the demand for these systems which will have a profound effect on the health of our planet.”

“Homeowner interest in solar is going through the roof as more and more Americans find out just how easy it is to make the switch to clean, renewable energy,” said WWF Director of Renewable Energy Outreach Keya Chatterjee. “Not only does this partnership provide our supporters a simple, money-saving path to installing rooftop solar, it also gives them another way to support WWF’s efforts to protect nature.”

The EnergySage Solar Marketplace, a comprehensive national consumer destination site for solar photovoltaics (PV), will serve as the program’s engine. The site helps homeowners, businesses and non-profits learn about solar, obtain competitive bids for solar power systems, and select the one that meets their particular needs and goals.

Incorporating the best practices of online shopping, the EnergySage Solar Marketplace is the only online shopping platform for solar PV systems. Its unique, innovative and user-friendly comparison-shopping experience injects unprecedented levels of simplicity, choice and transparency into the buying process for solar. Multiple quotes provide consumers with multiple options including choice of panels, brands, installers and financing options that include solar leases, PPAs and solar loans. Development of the EnergySage Solar Marketplace has been funded in part by Department of Energy Sunshot Initiative Awards. Additionally, for each solar panel system installed through the program through September 2014, EnergySage will give $250 or more to support WWF’s conservation efforts.

The program, part of WWF’s “Renewable: It’s Doable” campaign which is accessed through a WWF portal, makes it easier for people to research and shop for the best deals on solar panel systems. The EnergySage Marketplace provides an online comparison-shopping process that secures competitive quotes from pre-screened installers. The platform lets consumers easily compare quotes in an apples-to-apples format across all financing options at no cost to them. Because the site automatically performs the calculations needed to adjust for differences in the quotes received—different system sizes or different assumptions used to calculate cost and benefits—getting the best deal is simple and easy. Through automation, the EnergySage platform helps to reduce prices and make solar PV systems more accessible to a larger portion of the population. Its goal is to drive exponential increases in market adoption of solar.

About EnergySage Partnership Programs

EnergySage facilitates solar adoption through partnerships with organizations that are promoting solar and/or sustainability. Many corporations, municipalities, non-profits, utilities, and environmental organizations have embraced sustainability as part of their culture and are interested in expanding their sustainability efforts beyond their own operations. Leveraging the online EnergySage platform, these entities are offering their own turnkey solar programs as a no-cost / low cost way to encourage solar adoption among audiences that include members, customers, employees, citizens, and supporters. The EnergySage platform is extremely flexible and customizable; partner organizations can tailor the platform and program to suit their own specific needs, including co-branding or private labeling.
