What You Need to Know

Description:

Solar thermal system for domestic hot water

Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:

Photovoltaic Panels, Composting toilet, Daylighting, Energy Star Appliances, FSC Certified Wood, Green Roof, Local Materials, Non-Toxic Products, Passive solar, Recycled Materials, Straw bale, Super Insulated Walls/ Roof

My Motivation:

Vermont Community Climate Change grant

Experience with Installer:

Mixed- my recommendation is not to install one of these systems in the middle of winter. We were driven by the timeline for grant reporting but we experienced leaks later on that might have been avoided if the installers were not working in sub freezing conditions. Also I would recommend that customers receive a drawing showing how the panels will be installed on the roof prior to installation- we had a miscommunication about the location and layout which could have been avoided.
