What You Need to Know
Description:
A grid tied 4.2 kW Helios photovoltaic system
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
A Thermomass foundation system, site harvested and milled Hemlock timber frame and exterior siding, passive solar design, site assembled re-used rigid insulation shell with Zip System R-Sheathing, triple pane Loewen windows and doors, concrete floor w/ integral color, a Sopka wood cookstove for primary heat, backup radiant floor heating, Zehnder HRV, 4.2 kW PV, induction cooktop, LED and CFL lighting. No fossil fuels burned on site. Blower door results 0.51 ACH @ 50 Pascals
My Motivation:
To do our part in avoiding the use of fossil fuels. Secondly, generating our own electricity is an up front investment in energy usage that will pay for itself.
Advice:
Financial incentives for PV right now are the best they've ever been, especially if you're a member of NH Electric Coop. Don't wait and miss the opportunity.
Experience with Installer:
Make sure your expectations about the installation time frame are realistic relative to the weather.
