What You Need to Know
Description:
This project is part of National Grid's Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) pilot program. We are in the middle of construction, but hope to be completing the project around September 2012. Expect to reduce energy consumption by over 80% and earn a HERS score of 20. Features include R54 walls, an R70 roof, R45 floors, high end triple glazed windows and doors, high efficiency mechanical systems, and an HRV (heat recovery ventilation) system, all of which will be complimented with a PV solar array and solar hot water system.
Other Benefits:
Superb air quality, comfort and enduring home value that will leave the rest of the un-retrofitted market behind.
Maintenance Requirements:
These are simple systems. By keeping the complexity low, the maintenance should also be low.
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
Spray Foam Closed Cell Alt Fuel Vehicle, Daylighting, Deep Energy Retrofit, Energy Star Appliances, Energy Star rated, FSC Certified Wood, Green Roof, Non-Toxic Products, Passive Solar, Radiant floor heating, Rain Barrels, Recycled Materials
My Motivation:
Desire to show that existing buildings can be transformed into shining examples of high performance.
Advice:
Treat yourself. Retrofit your home and be rewarded.
