Reduce your energy use first before you install renewables. The less energy you use, the less you need to make.

What You Need to Know

Description:

• Slab-on-grade insulated with continuous R-20 XPS • Double 2x4 wall system with R-40 dense cellulose • R-50+ attic insulation • Heat Mirror windows with U-values of 0.20 Btu/ft2hr°F • 100% ENERGY STAR lighting and appliances • 3.22-kW PV system • Evacuated tube thermal system for domestic water and space heating • Tankless propane water heater providing auxiliary space and water heating • Radiant floor heat

Maintenance Requirements:

PV is maintenance free for over 5 years. Insulation is stable and worry free. The solar hot water and radiant floor system has required several visits from technicians to fix problems.

My Motivation:

energy security and doing the right thing.

Advice:

It's important to invest in reducing your energy consumption before you add renewable energy to any project. If building new, choose a builder with experience exceeding energy codes. If retrofitting, get an energy assessment first and find out how to reduce your energy use.

Open House Info:
