What You Need to Know

Description:

In our home, built in 2010-11, we have installed an array of 13 'solar windows.' These prototype windows are currently in development. They are designed with 4 panes, 2 layers of insulation, and a center layer of gel mass which acts as a heat sink. The windows have exterior shades that are controlled thermostatically to allow or prevent the windows from storing heat. With direct sunlight, the windows can heat up to almost 120º, and provide the majority of our heating in the cooler months.
