What You Need to Know
Description:
To complement the PV power system, a Water Furnace 7 Series Continuously Variable GSHP was installed. This system includes a closed loop, horizontally-trenched Ground Heat Exchange (GHEX) pipe, with 5 x 125' trenches, 5000' of pipe, unpressurized variable speed flow center, slaved to the GSHP system. De-superheater DHW, MERV11 Air Filter and Performance monitoring options.
Other Benefits:
Replaced noisy external compressor unit, freed space adjacent to house.
Maintenance Requirements:
Semi-annual filter replacement, had to add some water to flow center.
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
External sun screen, lighting upgrade to LEDs, upgraded interior blinds, insulated garage door, bamboo flooring, upgraded windows, etc.
My Motivation:
(1) Sustainable future concern (2) Energy cost savings
Advice:
Had to go beyond local contractors to get significant systems. Some extra effort and time required to work with Building and Safety, due to uniqueness of system.
Experience with Installer:
Excellent team. Worked with me on hiring local backhoe operator. Primary goal was to obtain most efficient system available.
Additional Notes:
Due to lack of local climate/soil data, I did extensive research prior to signing the contractor. Trenching was very challenging due to step slopes and tough digging (decomposed granite).
