What You Need to Know
Description:
21 x LG 370 BOB, Enphase micro-inverters, grid tied. My panels are mounted on a 50-degree pitched roof above the 2nd floor of an 1890 house in an alcove with a 198-degree average orientation. The roof was replaced a year ago, the chimneys were replaced in August. The system should run uninterrupted for a good long while!
Other Benefits:
No small degree of peace of mind, knowing that I'm contributing my small part to the reduction of greenhouse gases - and saving money.
Maintenance Requirements:
The panels are mounted on a roof above the 2nd storey, with a 50-degree pitch, and no obstructions. The panels are smooth glass. I don't anticipate the need for panel maintenance. I can monitor system performance continuously. If I see any performance degradation, I will contact my installer, All Energy.
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
The house was fully insulated in October.
My Motivation:
1 - to control what I spend on energy; 2 - to benefit the environment; 3 - to increase the value of my house
Advice:
Make sure you know how your state handles grid tied systems: Does it require the utility to use net-metering? Does it offer any additional incentive for power generation (for instance, MA has the SMART program)? Does it offer any public-private partnership solar loan programs? My location in a city makes grid tied the best way to go for me.
Experience with Installer:
My installer, All Energy, provided as close to a turnkey experience as I can imagine. I have been very pleased with the process, the install, and the results.
