Smith & McClain Solar
Green Mountain Electric Supply
My wife and I hired Smith & McClain to install a solar tracker. Their electrician team ran all the wiring precisely where we requested. The installers did not mind that we periodically interrupted them with questions. "Oh you're fine, we want our customers to be involved in our projects." This indicated that we had hired a company that places high value on customer service. Another confidence-inspiring example was when the head electrician said to his helper, “Now remember, it doesn't cost us any more money to just get it right the first time!"
So how is the tracker running? We are producing power pretty much spot on with the quoted production estimate numbers. Production was consistent from year one to year two, and we have had zero issues with the tracker.
Smith & McClain provide excellent service after the sale. Any time we call or e mail with questions, we are met with polite, clear explanations that provide a better understanding of our solar setup.
We recommend Smith & McClain to people on a regular basis.
Thanks again for a job well done.
Fabulous service from Smith & McClain. Very professional. Highly recommend!
Smith & McClain installed a tracker for us and we had a great experience working with them. No issues, surprises, or concerns, they were efficient, polite and knowledgeable from initial consultation through installation and long-term followup. Our utility doesnt pay back for annual generation beyond what's used, so it was important we spec'd the system to fit our needs. Their analysis was spot-on and 5 years later we've had no concerns or issues. Smith & McClain responds quickly to any inquiry or problem and has been very responsive when maintenance or service issues have come up. Highly recommended, you won't find a better group to work with.
Smith and McClain were very easy to work with, really listened to what we were looking for, and designed a system that works. Our system is surpassing our expectations, and was a much better deal in the end than what we could have gotten elsewhere, thanks to their advice on financing options. They are nice people, know their stuff, and are easy to have around--though that wasn't for long as they are efficient and stay on the job til done.
Though launched later in the summer than expected due to a supply chain change which wasn't SM's fault--they worked to get a comparable replacement almost immediately in peak season and have us online by August 1--we've been happily surprised with the amount of electricity produced. Smith & McClain also immediately ironed out an electrical issue in our old barn (that was due to be tended to b/c of age) when the activation blew out the system, and got us online within days.
We opened a group account with the solar going to two homes, and our barn-roof 30-panel array has provided not one, but two places with electricity--and also our Chevy Volt. We partially payed for electric two or three months in mid winter when the panels were covered in snow. By March we were back to banking credit, and next year should be able to draw on credit banked through the summer with no winter payments at all besides our loan. The deals offered by larger corporations were much more costly than working with Smith and McClain. Pays to do the math! Our monthly loan payment (interest is cheaper from the bank than one of those companies) is about what we paid for electricity at one place, and the interest rate is a lot lower so we'll be done paying sooner--thanks to Smith & McClain's financing advice.
We are totally happy with our experience with Smith & McClain, and our new system.
I installed a solar tracker on my farm 3 years ago. Caleb Elder was most responsive to survey the property first to determine enough sunlight, best placement, and appropriate size tracker for my history of electrical usage. The installation was done in 2-3 days. Given the distance from the house and a large barn in between the house router and tracker, obtaining accurate radio data on generation has been spotty, but Caleb has tried to solve as has All Earth , the manufacturer. No maintenance issues to date. No electrical bill for 3 years. Because I have GMP, they allow you to identify neighbors to freely give a % of your excess power to before it goes to the grid. Federal solar tax credit was also a plus. Very pleased with purchase.
