EnergySage Awarded $1.6 Million From U.S. DOE SunShot Initiative

Press Release

BOSTON, MA – July 13, 2017

EnergySage, the leading online comparison-shopping marketplace for rooftop solar, community solar, and financing, was recently selected to receive a $1.6 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) SunShot Initiative through its Technology to Market 3 (T2M3) funding program. T2M3 focuses on accelerating research and development of highly impactful solar energy technologies.

“SunShot’s ongoing commitment to spurring solar energy innovation is inspiring and something we’re very proud to be a part of,” said EnergySage CEO and Founder Vikram Aggarwal. “EnergySage has been growing rapidly since launching our online marketplace in 2013. This latest award from the DOE helps us advance our mission of improving transparency and outcomes for solar-interested homeowners, solar installation companies, equipment manufacturers, and financiers. Our team is excited to get to work and is grateful for the DOE’s ongoing support."

EnergySage will use the funding to develop a scalable online solar marketplace that enables the consumer to freely choose solar equipment, financing, and installation options. The goal of this effort is to further bring down the cost of adoption for consumers, as well as increase the mass market adoption of solar PV systems for the benefit of solar installers, equipment manufacturers, and financiers.

EnergySage was selected as a part of the SunShot Initiative’s Technology to Market 3 funding program, which accelerates the research and development of next generation solar power technologies. To maintain its exponential growth, the solar industry needs a variety of products and services that can increase system values while reducing costs, facilitate grid integration, and increase consumer access to solar. This program enables entrepreneurs to prove the feasibility of their product and ready it for private sector follow-on support.
