What You Need to Know
Description:
Went with Q-cell ML-G10+ 405@ panels and IQ8M Enphase microinverters. It's only a grid tied system at the time. I'm thiking of adding battery backup at a later date.
Other Benefits:
I own two EVs, so knowing that I will not be contributing to pollution of the planet is important to me.
Maintenance Requirements:
Panels will have to be wiped down at least once a year. The installer is doing it for free for the first year, but that will be something that I will have to pay for after the first year to ensure production stays high.
Efficiency or Sustainability Improvements:
Going solar definitely peaks my interest in doing other energy-saving improvements around the house. The first that comes to mind is replacing my old washer and dryer with the new all-in-one that uses a heat pump to reduce energy usage by 50%. With time, I'll also be looking into adding battery backup and other projects to reduce energy consumption.
My Motivation:
We have tri-county and the cost per kwh is almost 15 cents per kwh and no option to shop around for alternatives. Took on this project to stop paying tri as little as possible.
Advice:
Shop around for the best deal. It took a lot of negotiating with a lot of installers to get to $2.1/watt with good equipment. It's a big commitment so making sure that you get the best deal will helpfully guarantee that you will reduce your payback period.
Experience with Installer:
so far so good, just signed contract so the fun part is about to begin
