EcoSmart installed my solar a few years ago with exceptional workmanship especially the way they concealed wires internally eliminating obtrusive conduit externally. Recently I noticed a leak in my roof that appeared to originate beneath a solar panel. Stephen and an associate came out immediately to my call on a Sunday to repair the leak. I was pleasantly surprised with the response and fix, but Stephen reminded me that EcoSmart honors their work warrantee. I highly recommend EcoSmart for peace of mind and would award EcoSmart with much more than the five allotted stars. I made a good decision...

If I could give EcoSmart negative stars I would. I have worked with many contractors, architects, engineers and developers in my life good and bad. EcoSmart could be one of if not the worst company I have ever had the unfortunate privilege to work with.

After signing up with them, they wasted almost 2 months of my time, misrepresenting timelines and expertise, mismanaging the process, communication and making multiple false statements along the way.

I was clear from the outset that the time frame install the system was critical. They told me multiple times that permits had been filed when, in reality they never filed them at all. They did not even know the process to file permits in my town (another thing they had represented they had experience with) and did not even contact the town until the week we had initially targeted for the install.

They told me they understood and had experience with Solar batteries. I had to design this part of the system myself because they had no clue what they were doing and were not even capable of effectively working with the vendor to design and solve for any issues that arose.

They were terrible with communication, often telling me they would get back to me and never doing so. I had to chase them all the time. When you are spending any amount this would be unacceptable. I was spending over $100,000.

2 months into the agreement, after bailing on a site visit that I rearranged my schedule for, Michael Pelton then called me to state that they would not install what they had agreed to and that Steve Pelton (the owner) was no longer going to offer batteries as he did not trust them. But then I should just do the solar alone with them. I was clear from the beginning that the point of the project was to have a back up system not just a solar system.

It seems to me that their plan from the beginning was to tell me what I wanted to hear and then pull the rug out from under me when the timing was such that I was in jeopardy of losing the full Federal Tax Credit and potentially the State incentives in hopes that I would adjust the install to solar only. Ultimately, they gave me no confidence that they were going to be able to successfully and properly install solar either.

In my option and experience they are not to be trusted. My experience with them is that they are incredibly disorganized and inept, often gave me false and misleading statements and have real issues communicating at any level that would be considered acceptable. They also showed zero respect for my time or following through on what they had committed to do. All of this resulted in me losing time, money and expending a tremendous amount of effort for ultimately no reason.

Simply horrendous on every level and I could not recommend a company less then EcoSmart.

EcoSmart was great to work with. They sent someone out shortly after I first contacted them, handled the energy audit, and worked with me to design the system. Installation was quick - less than 2 days, all told. Staff and owner were always responsive and made sure we were happy with everything, and even helped out with financing and tax credit issues. Would definitely recommend!

Everyone at EcoSmart was responsive, attentive, friendly, and incredibly helpful. They made the process as seamless as possible, and went above and beyond at every opportunity. They helped in every possible way for me, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the hard work they put in. Highly recommend across the board.

Excellent service and very easy to work with. Ryan, my salesperson, was informative, responsive and a pleasure to work with. He explained every single aspect of the solar process from beginning to end. Spent several hours at my home to review everything. In the end we are left with a kick ass system. They even sent someone out to fix a hole in my ceiling after I stepped through it when we had to go into the attic to take photos! All around fantastic company.

I could not have been more pleased by my experience with EcoSmart Home Services. What I loved about them:

    1. No hard sell. They have a product I wanted to buy, and from the first moment, EcoSmart gave me the information I wanted, when I wanted it. Other companies (I met with a total of seven) made me feel like I had to figure out how they were trying to trick me. It was stressful, and after talking to all seven, one thing became very apparent: many of them either outright lie or they obfuscate the truth. I selected EcoSmart because they took the time to understand my vision for the project and the goals underlying that vision. I wanted high quality panels that would last. I wanted an attractive solar array. I didn't want to overpay. EcoSmart listened and understood and made recommendations.

    2. Great products at great prices. There is a lot to be said for not overpaying. I wanted the best solar production, using the best quality panels, for the lowest possible price. I feel very confident that I didn't overpay, and moreover, paid a fair price for a great product.

    3. The warrantees! I was amazed at the discrepancy in warrantees offered from one solar company to another. I want everything to be warrantied for the longest possible duration (duh, right?) and EcoSmart offers 25 years, up front. Some other companies were willing to negotiate for warrantees of longer duration, without offering them upfront, which constantly made me feel like they were trying to trick me. EcoSmart was very transparent from the first moment. There is a lot to be said for straight-forward business dealings.

    4. Trustworthy and responsive customer service, both in the back office and the front. It was really important to me that a named someone be responsible for our project, and that person be responsive and truthful when I had questions, and always follow up. At the same time, I didn't want to be pestered while I made a decision. I am really anti creepy sales people, which is why I loved EcoSmart; Ryan Shelby is just a dream project manger. He handled my solar project from beginning to end, site plan (all 6 drafts) to installation, to final inspection, to checking in to make sure all was working as expected. Ryan and his team at EcoSmart were true partners. I trusted Ryan and EcoSmart to have my back, keep my best interests and priorities in mind, and to think ahead to avoid potential pitfalls. Ryan and his team at EcoSmart proved over and over again that they are worthy of trust.

    5. They're roofers too! Other companies wouldn't make any guarantees they wouldn't damage my roof. EcoSmart gave me confidence that my new roof was in good hands.

    6. My motto: work smarter, not harder. EcoSmart worked smarter. Ryan was terrific at pointing out solutions to problems I didn't foresee, before they were problems. Any project manager can be expected to knock down issues as they arise. The best project managers predict and solve in advance. For example, since I have a detached garage that I wanted to put solar panels on, Ryan identified the most attractive way to run the power lines to the garage (buried, obviously) and then was able to use an existing buried conduit to avoid the expense of trenching. No other company had considered the appearance of my home in their site plan. Fewer wires is better. Giving me fewer wires without costing me money or digging up my landscaping? That's a beautiful thing. I really admire elegant solutions and the people who come up with them.

    7. EcoSmart didn't make me feel stupid. The strategy many solar company sales people seem to use: confuse the customer with math they don't understand (often because it is utter nonsense). No bs from EcoSmart. I also wanted a symmetric configuration of panels so that if you happened to be flying over my home, the panels on my house would be pleasing to the eye. Maybe that’s dumb, but it is what I wanted, and I don’t regret insisting on it. EcoSmart didn't bat an eye when I explained. They designed a symmetric array that looks beautiful from space, and didn’t make me feel my request was silly. I felt consistently empowered to make decisions based on complete information.

    8. Panel monitoring software. Enphase Enlighten monitors panel output. Some other reviewer said it doesn't monitor individual panel output which isn't true. The desktop version shows everything, including individual panel production. The mobile version is more streamlined.

    What I didn't love:

It takes a long time from concept to working system. United Illuminating was so slow to approve.

I recommend EcoSmart unreservedly to everyone who asks. Call Ryan Shelby and you'll see why.

We wanted to wait 6 months after installation of our solar panels to write this review. Ecosmart helped us with information on net metering, leasing vs owning, and state and federal rebates. Ultimately, my husband and I decided to purchase 16 LG panels. The whole job went smoothly. The electrician and installers were super nice. They took care of the permit process. The front office walked us through all the contracts and documents for the Enerbank loan and rebates which we filed with our taxes. So far so good! Our last two electric bills were less than $10.

Our only complaint is the Enphase Enlighten website. It monitors our solar generation and we can look at graphs depicting hourly, daily and monthly production. However, it does not breakdown electric output per panel. For that feature Enphase wanted a whopping $250.

EcoSmart initially presented themselves, and thereafter, conducted themselves very professionally. They explained the differences between purchasing outright, purchasing with financing, and leasing. They explained the equipment that would be used which was at the top as explained by other websites. Whereas other solar companies pushed leasing, we chose to purchase outright which required an initial outlay but provided us with a zero to very little monthly utility bill. We liked the idea of having a local company in existence long enough who has weathered previous ups and downs in the industry and our economy. And a local company meant a local phone call.

The staff was very professional both during the investigation period, the installation period and post installation which included the owner, the initial sale rep, the electrician, the panel installers and the support staff back at the office. They provided excellent guidance throughout the paperwork process, answered all of our questions promptly and knowledgeably, and we hardly knew they were here working on our roof or at the electric meter. Their projected time frame to start and complete was met. Service has been a strong point for them as they have followed up post completion via the phone, email, or actually re-visiting the house. We are very satisfied with our experience with EcoSmart.

EcoSmart went above and beyond my expectations. From the pricing and premium quality of the panels all the way through permitting, installation and inspection, the EcoSmart team was transparent and communicative the entire way. Their 25 year "bumper to bumper" warranty is the best I have seen out there along with one of the best financing options available on the market. Their commitment to their customers is very evident as the Owner Steve came out to personally do the final inspection with the utility company. Would highly recommend!
