Could not have been better!

I am so impressed with the responsiveness and excellent communication of Raza (Project Manager). We have had our system since 2010 and we never had such excellent service from a maintenance company for our system. The process could not have been easier or handled more efficiently. Pleasant, friendly, professional, and expedient. What more could you want?

SolarSME has terrible customer service. System does not meet my needs after spending nearly $70K.

1 Year update: SolarSME finally completed the system install March/April of 2023. However, the system does not do what I had originally requested. In the last 6 months or so, I've received at least 5 different phone calls from SolarSME asking me to recommend SolarSME to others. When I tell them that my system still does not do what they promised, I get a few seconds of awkward silence and a statement that someone from their engineering department will contact me right away. No one ever does! Not 1 single follow up call at all. This cycle repeats itself every month or two (another sales/referral request call, and no follow ups). ============================ Original review: Hi there - It has been almost 6 months (from end of May to now end of Nov), after spending over $16K with SolarSME, I still have not seen any progress as far as getting solar panels installed. My project manager's name is Denis Lee (or so he tells me), I've never met him in person. Every single time I call them, they complain to me that Dallas City is slowing things down. But it has been 6 months. You cannot just sit on your behinds and complain to your customer. How long should I expect this delay? No idea. Could I potentially be sitting here by next June (June 2023) and still without solar panels installed? I was told Maybe. You've been paid and you need to figure out a solution. May I repeat myself? You've been paid and you need to figure out a solution for your customer. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. But it has been an absolute nightmare. I would NOT recommend SolarSME to anyone.

Pretty disappointing

We recently had solar SME install solar panels in our home. They were eager to get started and responsive throughout the installation process. As soon as we wired the final draw, however, they disappeared. Today, more than 8 weeks after final payment was made, the system does not seem to be operating or configured correctly. As result, our energy cost actually higher than they were before the installation of the panels. Clearly something isn’t working, but I can’t seem to get them to care.

Excellent Value, Installation, and Customer Service (update 2024...ongoing customer service/response

I had a pretty large system installed (15kw with an LG battery) and started the process in December. SME was working with my city (Suffolk, VA) through the pandemic, so it took a long time for Suffolk to finish the permit, but SME was on top of it the entire time. Everyone was very professional and friendly, and the company was always responsive to emails and calls. My project manager was Sam, and the installers were Jesse and Ausif. They all did a great job. Another thing I really liked is that they were willing to install the size of system I wanted, as opposed to the solar power installers we have around here who wanted to convince you that a smaller system for more money was the way to go. To keep it in perspective, I was able to put a 15KW system on my house with the LG 9.8KW-hr battery sytem in place for less than Power Solar or Ion were charging for a 10-kw system. One thing I will say for solar in general-it's going to take some time, and that isn't the installers fault. You need to get approved by the city, you have to get approved by the utility-lot of stuff going on. But SME was great-powered right on through everything, and my system is doing very well. 0800 and I am already above 2 KW! Woo-hoo! (I got the panasonic 330watt panels.Those bad boys are amazing!) Update: (spoiler alert-still very happy): Solar SME finished up my install last year around August-they did a great job. I have 51 solar panels and a LG Chem RESU 10 battery. Around April, the battery failed. I contacted Solar SME and they were extremely responsive and immediately started working on getting the battery back to LG for a new one. In addition, they have been keeping an eye on my solar output and found that one of my solar edge inverters were malfunctioning, so they replaced my battery and replaced the inverter at the same time. I worked with Baseem for my tech guy and Sam was my project manager-both of them are very responsive and extremely interested in resolving my problems. It took a while, but that is to be expected. I went with Solar SME because they have great prices (about half what these companies roaming around in Hampton Roads, VA are charging) and the reviews are excellent. They always respond immediately when I contact them and they keep me posted on the progress of whatever we were working on-in this case RMA'ing the battery an and changing that inverter. The thing I would recommend remembering is that they aren't a huge nationwide conglomerate. They are based out of Texas, and they have teams that travel around doing these installs, so it might take a bit for them to get to you if you need service. In my case, in Virginia, they generally have teams in Maryland and Virginia Beach area, and they had a team come out on the two different occasions necessary to change my battery and inverter-once to pull the battery down for shipment, and then again to install the new battery and inverter. So, in my experience, they work hard to get out to you if you have any issues, they do great work when they arrive, and they stand behind their work. I highly recommend them. Update May 2024: 3 years later, I am still very happy with Solar SME I had my system installed by solar SME about three years ago. I have a 16.5kw system with a 10kw-hr lg-chem battery backup. I had a problem with my battery about a week ago, notified Solar SME and they had a crew come out to check on my system. I think a one week response time is quite spectacular in this field. I was very pleased-especially as hurricane season is upon us and I wanted my battery functional! :) Mohammed and Jose came out, troubleshot the system and had the battery up and working properly in about an hour. I was very impressed with both their technical competence and their courtesy. Very nice people. Also, their coordintor Roman, was very much on top of things, coordinated their visit time (which they were very prompt to) and checked in after they were finished. I highly recomend Solar SME to anyone looking to get into solar.
