Overview

Since 2002, PV Squared has provided renewable energy solutions to homeowners and businesses in the Pioneer Valley and the surrounding regions.

We’ve grown from a four-person company to more than ten times that size today. As a worker-owned cooperative, we’re invested in the happiness of our clients, the livelihoods of our workers and the health of our community. This is an important milestone for us as two of our core goals are to create sustainable, living-wage jobs and to strengthen our local economy.

Deposit kept without full disclosure of potential hurdles

We attempted to have a solar system installed by PV Square. We ran into issues with their design, as it did not maximize the roof space well. It took quite a bit of persuasion to get the staff person to put some effort into investigating alternative designs. Once that was sorted out and the design met the town regulations, we ran into further hurdles with the power company, Eversource. Eversource was requiring US to upgrade the utility grid and transformer on the street, before we could carry on with installing solar. This added quite significantly to the cost of the project and made it fiscally unmanageable. PV Square did not forewarn of us of this possibility, even though we were subsequently told that they had run into this situation before. We believe they should have let us know that this could occur, before taking our deposit. Our deposit was placed in good faith and we believed that the project would proceed based on their project proposal and cost analysis. Between feeling ripped off by Eversource and PVSquare’s unwillingness to return our deposit, the whole process has left us with a very bad feeling toward this whole process. We do not recommend PVSquare, as keeping customers' deposits for unfinished projects is a poor, often illegal, business practice.
