United Solar Associates

They just don't respond. My solar installation hasn't been working for a month now, I call, email, I call the equipment providers. Heard they got the part mailed to them via the manufacturer, and still nothing. Do not use this company.

We selected United Solar Associates in November 2017. One of the criteria we were impressed by was that they projected the installation would occur on December 15, 2017, because we were planning on being away from January 15 - March 15, 2018. When our representative told us there were delays in the permitting, he promised us a firm installation date of March 19. More delays throughout the spring, and finally our system went live on May 11th. On August 8th, the system stopped working. We did not know it wasn't working until mid September. We called repeatedly over the next month, often having to call several times before a call was returned. Between September 28th and October 26th we had six separate service calls. When the system was finally repaired, we were told we would be reimbursed for the electricity bills we had to pay while the system was down. This has not happened. I do not recommend United Solar Associates.

Many delays leading up to install (and poor communication about blown deadlines). Worst of all, we financed our home solar installation and replaced the section of roof where we installed. So, after completing the job, the solar company was paid by the financing firm for their work plus the cost of the roof repairs (the total amount financed). They were supposed to reimburse us for the roofing cost as we had already paid that out of pocket. Instead, United Solar hasn't reimbursed us for months. They promised to repay us, missed their deadline and didn't inform us that they couldn't meet their commitments. The business owner apologized promised to repay us and dictated a new deadline. That date came and went with no communication. We now need to resort to legal action simply to recoup funds that they acknowledge they owe us. Any firm that gives you their word, doesn't make good on it, and doesn't communicate that they can't meet their commitment is not one to do business with. This concerns me greatly going forward to think that a firm this unreliable (and, apparently, cash-strapped) is supposed to take responsibility for any maintenance issues that could come up with the installation. Stay away!

I sat down with ~ 5 solar installers and only considered self installers. Silvestre was as knowledgeable if not more than the others that came out. United uses the same if not better panels than most and has their own workforce. There were your typical construction snags, but overall it was an excellent installation experience. We are a few weeks into operation and we are seeing negative consumption which is how the system was sized. Highly recommend United.

I ordered the service in Sep. 2017 through energysage.com. The whole process from project scheduling to finishing went silk smooth. For my 5.36KW solar system, it took almost two months to become production, which in my opinion is very fast considering the various requirements from electric company and local town for solar system installation. Here i would like to express my sincere thanks to project manager/sales, Mr. Silvestre, for his dedicated work. Mr. Silvestre is such a knowledgable and nice guy who has done a great job educating me about the whole solar system and its benefit. After the solar system being installed, i encountered one trivial but annoying problem, i.e. solaredge reporting system could not communicate properly with Mass energy reporting system, i just felt helpless and sent an email to Mr. Silverstre, who took over the responsibility and solved the problem single handedly. The main electrician from United Solar, forgiving me not being able to recall his name now, is a very respectable professional. It was such a pleasure being able to talk with this guy who constantly offered me a lot of solar energy and electric tips. In summary, i am very satisfied with the service offered by United Solar and strongly recommend its service to anybody who wants to go green!

Update: Selected the company in Nov, signed the check over 20 Dec and just heard today that paperwork was not filed correctly .... Very concerning especially because the work was to be completed within 30 days of contract.... Will keep you informed. So far so good... Although the estimate was to start by 18 Dec there were a few snags that were not the fault of the company. Silvestre (my account rep) has been very responsive to my questions YTD. The true test of a fast install, equipment that was identified for the install is the same and to see if the company can produce as fast as advertised.... Stay tuned sports fans.
