Photon Brothers

I made a mistake when I signed the contract for my panels by agreeing to pay the full price as soon as the panels were finished being installed. I was told several times “Our work is done” and you have to pay us in full. But here’s the problem: their work is not done. At least here in Boulder, CO. Photon needs to pass inspection (with an employee present) and then apply and be accepted into the utility company’s (Xcel) queue for new meters to accommodate the panels. I agree, it is not difficult to do this. My panels we installed in early May and I paid the bill as required by the contract. Several weeks went by before the inspection, which did not pass. Several more weeks went by while the plans were modified and someone came out to the house and made the required changes. Then several more weeks went by before the next inspection, which required a little more work on Photon’s part before fully passing. Another week passed, and then I started calling Xcel to see if I was on the queue. Turns out they did not fill out the application correctly, so another week was wasted. Oh, and then we had a leak in the roof where Photon forgot to put in a screw and our bedroom ceiling was stained and the carpet wet. They did come quickly to fix the leak, the project manager no longer works there, and they did pay one month’s electric bill because of the delays. The system was turned on September 7, 4 months after I paid the bill. I strongly recommend you sign a contract requiring 50% up front, 25% at completion of installation, and 25% when you are in the queue with the electric company and the solar company’s work is actually finished. I paid too early and had no recourse, because they had all my money. And I feel like our project was a low priority for them as soon as the bill was paid

I ended up choosing a different installer for reasons particular to my situation, but I thought I should give a quick shout out to Krista, who was far and away the most helpful sales rep during my process, giving heaps of helpful guidance while being a genuine pleasure to deal with. I spent so much time researching PV providers, all of the hardware and options and decided to work with Photon Brothers. I’m so glad I did. From our first call, Krista was incredibly helpful, answered all of my questions and made me feel really comfortable about a big decision. Every person who came to our house for a site visit, for doing the actual install, or for meeting the city inspectors was top notch professional. Alexis was my project manager and she nailed the balance of keeping me thoroughly informed but not inundating me with messages and info. I researched installing solar on my house for way too long. I picked Photon Brothers because I loved the equipment they use, their pricing seemed appropriate, and they had a reputation of being good to work with. I'm very happy I chose Photon Brothers. Krista Talmage zeroed in on my needs right away. Eric Hopf kept the design and install process moving along quickly and was great to talk to. The install team was fantastic. They clearly are very good at what they do and they love their jobs. Fantastic guys. My system is installed, looks great, has already been inspected and I'm just waiting for Xcel to turn it on. This is a great company, with great employees, and great products. I would 100% select them again.

I shopped out quotes to 5 different solar installers and Photon Brother's had the most reasonably priced bid and also the quickest availability to install a solar power system on my property. The next closest bid was $8K more and had a 3 month wait list. Photon Brother's assigned a project manager, Eric Hopf, that kept me informed on each step of the process. At one point a Photon Brother's electrician waited patiently for more than half the day for a county inspector to show up and sign off on the installation.

I researched at least 10 other companies and we ended up working with Photon Brothers at our previous residence. Needless to say we were extremely impressed. The process was very simple and their staff provided excellent guidance the whole way. We were presented with numerous options but it never felt overwhelming and we ended up with a system that met our needs perfectly. Post install service was great as we had a panel that was not functioning correctly; was replaced within the week. Currently working with Krista to design a system for our new home and the process is even better with the newer satellite imaging. Krista provided excellent advice regarding system size, future needs, and panel manufacturer. I whole heartedly recommend this company to anyone looking to invest in solar panels.
