EnergySage
U.W. Madison mechanical engineering alumni, Burke and Mark O'Neal, started Full Spectrum Solar in August 2002. Burke had returned from his position as a lead engineer with one of the largest California solar energy companies at that time, and with Mark, they envisioned building an environmentally friendly contractor that would install the best quality photovoltaic systems possible, with unmatched customer service and at a competitive price.

Today, Full Spectrum Solar is one of the most highly-credentialed solar energy contractors in the Midwest. Among our experienced staff, we have degreed mechanical and electrical engineers, with over 40 years of combined renewable energy experience between them. Our staff includes master electricians, two with over 15 years of photovoltaic installation experience, journeyman-level electricians, NABCEP-Certified Installers, and solar-experienced roofers.

We are proud of our zero-energy-cost office and shop on East Washington Ave and our energy-efficient vehicles, including three electric vehicles. In early 2013, our office and shop was awarded an ENERGY STAR 100/100 rating. That’s the highest rating in Wisconsin; better than 99 percent of comparable buildings!

Our team has installed over 800 of the finest quality solar energy systems in southern WI, for homes, apartments, and a wide variety of businesses and non-profits. Our most visible projects include Forest Edge Elementary School, Dane County Job Center, Willy Street Grocery Co-op, Troy Gardens Co-housing, and Holy Wisdom Monastery in Dane County; the Milwaukee Recycling Center in Milwaukee; Organic Valley Cooperative in La Farge; Evansville Community Pool in Evansville; and Dominican Eco-Justice Center in Racine.

Excellent experience from start to finish!!

Full Spectrum really knocked every part of our project out of the park. Communication with the project manager was quick and detailed. The project was on budget and ahead of schedule throughout. We couldn't be happier with the result. More to the point, though, Full Spectrum went way above and beyond twice during the course of the project! Early on in the project we got an EV and needed a charger installed well before we had anticipated needing one. Full Spectrum got a crew out to us to over the holidays and got the charger installed. Right after the array went live our well pump started tripping its breaker. I wasn't sure whether to call an electrician, a plumber or Full Spectrum. I called Full Spectrum just to get their input. They shifted their schedule around and came out to check out the situation. It was quickly obvious that the problem was in the pump and was unrelated to the array but Full Spectrum got us a temporary fix anyway. Great Work! I am looking forward to expanding our array in the future!!

Fantastic Professional Work. Treated Us and Our Property Like It Was Their Own

We got a 9.5KW ground mount with Enphase inverters from Full Spectrum and we are very impressed. Everything they did is AMAZING! The work they did is extremely professional and clean. Communication with Ron Chester was fantastic as well and any questions we had (I asked a lot) were answered fast. The crew doing the installs even did some small "nice" things (more below) that they most certainly did not have to. Every step of the process made me feel like they truly cared about me and the work they did. If we decide to add batteries or V2G in the future, we'll definitely be going through Full Spectrum again. For the full story. I heard about them via the Madison subreddit but did my due diligence and checked out other companies. First got a quote from Everlight and they were VERY expensive and very pushy. Everlight gave me bad vibes so I went to another company that was very highly reviewed to get another quote. Unfortunately they didn't do ground mounts and recommended we contact Full Spectrum. So now 2 different sources are pointing us towards Full Spectrum. We contacted them and they did a virtual site assessment and gave us a reasonable quote. This did not feel pushy nor did we feel like we were talking with a shady salesman. We liked what they were offering and decided to move forward with them. They then came out and did an in person site assessment involving shade analysis to get the position perfect. Fast forward a few months and construction begins. I was home during all the work and the crew was extremely nice and answered any and all questions I had. They also asked for my opinion on where some equipment should go (whether I preferred it next to the meter or in the basement next to the panel). The area they worked in was in a garden bed along the side of the house and they were very careful to only dig up what they needed to for the trenching. I was honestly surprised how little collateral damage there was to the surrounding plants. Plants regrow so I wasn't worried about them but seeing the attention to detail and care in their work was reassuring. Now on to the part where I think they went above and beyond. They had to dig a trench from the ground mount to the house so they can bury electric cable. We live in the driftless area and if you know anything about it, it is rocky. While they were doing the trench work, there was a 40ft section where they ran into large flagstone-like rocks every few feet. So they pulled these 15lb+ rocks out and there are now 50+ large rocks scattered in dirt along the 100'ft trench in the yard. I asked if they could not throw the rocks back in when filling in the trench since I wanted to use them for a landscaping project. Not only did they leave the rocks out when refilling the trench, but they also stacked them in a neat pile off the lawn. I feel like any other contractor would have just left them scattered throughout the lawn for me to pick up later. The whole process was very straightforward and there were no surprises. We love the look of the array and are extremely happy with the end results. Everyone on the crew was a pleasure to work with. Even our neighbor's barn cat loved the crew and begged them for pets.

Excellent service

We contacted Brent at full spectrum after our project with another company fell through. He was able to assure us they could complete our project in a timely manner, and for less cost than our previous project. He was right! They installed the system in even less time than he estimated and everything was done very clean and professional. It looks great and is up and running well before the original estimated date. We are very happy with the project and the entire team from full spectrum who worked on our home. I would easily recommend them to anyone looking to install solar on their home.

Top-notch solar and EV charger installer

I've used Full Spectrum on three separate occasions: (1) a solar array, (2) an expansion of the solar array a year later, and (3) the installation of two EV chargers. The Full Spectrum engineer and electricians that I worked with were awesome. I am very happy with my SunPower solar system; it has worked perfectly!

Shining through Covid

The challenges were many. Both, myself and Full Spectrum failed at finding a electrical contractor to upgrade my electrical panel for my proposed larger array. Full Spectrum agreed to, and stepped up to do the upgrade, so we could go forward. The electrical supplier ordered a uncommon size main breaker for us. It was a 6 week wait because of Covid shortages. The power company disconnected the power for the electrical panel upgrade. While installing the upgraded panel, it was discovered, after a 6 week wait, the supplier gave Full Spectrum the wrong size and incompatible Main breaker. In order to get my power back on, the electrician, volunteered a compatible Main breaker from her home rewiring project. My Full Specrum project manager left his office, went to the electricians home, removed the breaker from her panel, brought it to my home. So they could keep working to get my power back on. The Covid and non-Covid issues continued like any addon, Full Spectrum kept stepping up, on budget. I would hire them again.
