very unprofessional, do not hire this contractor

Unprofessional; do not hire South Coast Greenlight contractor for your solar or geothermal. Several years ago my wife and I hired South Coast Greenlight to install a geothermal system in our newly built home in Jamestown, RI. When we later decided to also install solar panels, I sought out 3-4 estimates from local, reputable solar companies including South Coast Greenlight. At that time, we learned that besides receiving a federal tax credit, there would be an additional $5000 REF grant available from the state of Rhode Island for installing solar. When we reached out to them, South Coast Greenlight declined our request for help in securing the grant. The following is South Coast Greenlight’s response to our request: " I wanted to point out that I omitted the REF Grant. There are at least 2 extra inspections, additional engineering, and lots of added "red-tape" which leads to high administration costs on our end." After weighing the pros and cons balanced with the estimates from each provider, we decided to go with a company who happily assisted us in filing for the grant. I politely declined South Coast Greenlight’s estimate, (explaining via email the differences in solar system size, price and the fact that we were determined to apply for the grant which they were unwilling to help us with). Gary Cyr, the owner, called me back immediately rudely demanding that I should use his company because he wanted to put my home on his website as a net zero home having his company potentially do both solar and geothermal installations. I calmly explained to Gary my logic for choosing another company and was received with open and unprofessional hostility; he abruptly hung up the phone during our exchange. As it turned out, we enlisted the help of Sunwatt Solar, a reputable local solar company to install our solar system; the application process was smooth and simple and we received the $5000 grant without problems. Sunwatt Solar used the same quality components and microinverters as SCG. They were helpful, consistent and professional. In addition to my own experience, a Google customer review reveals that South Coast Greenlight’s owner, Gary Cyr, "[he] flies off the handle" when anyone questions Gary’s estimates, suggesting a pattern of hostile behavior. Happenstance that some months ago our Geothermal system, (installed by South Coast Greenlight) malfunctioned, requiring service. I left voicemails, emailed and directly texted the installer at South Coast Greenlight but my repeated attempts to communicate went ignored. The inaction of South Coast Greenlight demonstrates unprofessionalism as well as a mean-spirited spitefulness. I then called Superior Comfort and Comfort Zone, -both were willing to come out and mitigate even though they were not the ones that installed the Geothermal Heat Pump. Both companies were courteous, responsive and professional. I highly recommend Superior Comfort and Comfort Zone for geothermal, and Sunwatt for solar as they are knowledgeable professionals who do not confuse professionalism with personal, emotional fragility.
