Independent Power

We hired Independent Power to install two large solar arrays on our hotels in Estes Park—a 93kW (211-panel) and a 75kW (170-panel) system, both installed in 2020. This review reflects our long-term experience with Independent Power, including their post-installation support. Unfortunately, our experience has been disappointing from the outset. The project was scheduled for a two-week installation, which was crucial for our seasonal business, but it ultimately took more than six months to complete. During installation, one of the panels blew off the roof and landed in a neighboring field—a dangerous event that could have caused serious injury. Another issue involved the lack of foresight regarding snow accumulation. Despite being a Colorado-based company, the design failed to account for snow sliding off solar panels onto customer vehicles. As a result, the team had to retrofit snow fencing and relocate panels, requiring significant re-engineering after the initial installation—an outcome that was both inconvenient and disruptive. After installation, problems persisted. When we experienced an inverter communication error, their service team not only failed to resolve the issue but also shorted out the communication board, subsequently blaming our internet configuration, which had not been changed. Most concerning is their customer support, or lack thereof. After investing over $400,000, we now receive little to no response or assistance. This raises serious questions about how they might treat smaller customers once the installation is finished. In summary, I would not recommend Independent Power. Our experience was characterized by over-promising, under-delivering, poor project management, and inadequate post-sale support. I urge anyone considering Independent Power to seriously research alternative providers.

The company that installed my PV System in 2006 went out of business, so when the original inverter failed in 2015 I called another large local PV company to provide a replacement. When that 2nd inverter failed in 2022, I called that company back (inverter in this case was under warranty) but they were not interested in helping me, since they were not the installers of my total system. So, I called IPS. They have been terrific. Rick came out and diagnosed the problem, and submitted all the paperwork for the replacement. Cierra has been diligent in keeping (necessary!!) pressure on the manufacturer to ship a replacement, and in keeping in communication with me. And at the end of a very long workday yesterday, Rick showed up with a cheerful attitude at 6:15 p.m. to install my long-awaited replacement inverter. These folks are great to do business with!! (I am not rating value because it was a warranty situation, so no real info on that.)

Independent Power was much more thorough than other companies when drafting a proposal, the cost was competitive and installation was completed earlier than expected. Excellent communication and friendly, professional service. Being a local company was a plus!

Independent Power has our undying praise and appreciation for a professional job well done. The crew of 3 who labored for 10 hours on our roof- Rick, Jan, Chuck- deserve more praise and adoration than we can give in this limited setting. Many thanks to IP for coming in to repair a total screw up from another company; our needs were handled professionally, respectfully, and in a timely manner after we reached out for help in resolving equipment failure from the company who had installed (and ignored our request for assistance) the original system. We would recommend Independent Power and their incredible crew, including Cierra, for any necessary work related to your home project! This company certainly deserves your notice and consideration.

Our solar panels are up on the roof basking in the sun, at least today we have good sun. I liked the people we worked with at Independent Power. They returned calls promptly, which I appreciate immensely. Xcel was a problem getting the metering equipment. Now it's working! Yay! Thanks Independent Power!

IPS were truly great and extremely communicative with the entire solar process. We shopped around for solar quotes and felt what IPS offers for the price was the most comprehensive package for the most reasonable rates. I genuinely enjoyed every person we dealt with, as they explained all the steps along the way thoroughly and with a positive attitude. We love how our solar panels look installed; they’re sleek! I highly recommend IPS as a company!
