Poor follow through and communication

The people working for the installer were friendly and seemed like they did a good job. However like many other reviews state, the company is not following through on completing the installation or responding to emails sent to them. We struggled for months to get any sort of response or follow-up from the team with many times people just showing up at our house out of the blue saying they needed to do something. A huge delay in the project we had was the installer doing something that wasn't approved by our electrical company then they proceeded to charge us extra to fix their unapproved mistake. In addition, when we requested an updated estimate part way through the project to prepare for payment, they did not respond. Then they completed the project and demanded immediate payment. To make it worse, I had to remind them about our deposit and asked for a couple days to transfer funds. They deposited the check near immediately ignoring this request. Do not go with this installer. Look elsewhere. This was a pathetic installation experience and I am quite sure any sort of labor warranty with them is forfeit because they do not communicate.

Bad Communication

I've been very frustrated with the communication - it can be difficult to get a call back, emails seem to be ignored, and it has been very hard to get timeframes (such as when the panels on my roof for a few months will get turned on, or when other work will actually be completed). I understand delays and issues with Xcel, but I feel like I've been left in the dark a lot of the time as to what actual timeframes look like for things to get done. I'm now - after a few months asking- being told possibly 4-6 months for my panels to get turned on after install. Install crew left trash all over my yard and cigarette buds by my front door - I've never received a response to my email where I explained my frustration with this (I've got dogs - so roofing nails and candy bar wrappers could mean an $$ vet trip...). There are lots of other options out there.

Failed to monitor system and return calls for months

I have had 1 year old solar panels offline for over a month and have not been able to reach anyone. I have a 25 year warranty that is worthless

Horribly disappointed

We were so excited about getting solar. We signed a contract with Southards in June of 2022 and provided a $2000 deposit. After month of delays, we found out that the original person to quote our roof did not account for our roof type and they said they need to start the entire process over again with a new quote. We are now more than 6 months out from signing a contract and we are not any closer to having solar or having our deposit refunded. Honestly the only part about this is that the solar credit did not go down at the end of the year as expected.

Thanks to Southard Solar for getting us through a long difficult permitting period.

The city permit and city power services really dragged their feet. They were difficult to deal with and slow to respond to get updates but we made it. Southard Solar did a great job of staying on it for us. The installation crew was friendly and did a great job as well as the electrician. We are now enjoying our new solar power. Thanks Southard and especially Amanda for holding our hand during the process.

Great Solar installer

It's been an overall pleasant experience working with Southard. There has been some complication to my Solar installation because the previous house owner built a small shelter over the outside power meter. Since Xcel energy requires that the meter be open to access, Douglas took the time to find a solution and confirmed with Xcel before he started any work. They are also diligent on getting all the permits and responded well to my requests. The installation was smooth. The final setup with Enphase also encountered some issue. But, Amanda is very patient helping me resolve the issue. Now I can see my Solar power production on my phone. The whole process is long due to the long wait in getting approval from Xcel at every steps. But, Southard worked all the way along side me to keep me informed. Great work!
