Powerhome is an American company, headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina that specializes in solar energy and roofing services. We were founded in 2006 as Rescomm and in 2014 made the decision to rebrand ourselves as Powerhome Solar & Roofing. This change reflected our vision and the direction we wanted to take the company. That direction has helped us grow our company to consist of over 100 passionate employees and still counting.

We have also grown outside of North Carolina and currently operate in South Carolina as well as Michigan. In 2015 and 2016, Solar Power World magazine listed Powerhome as the No. 7 overall solar installation company in the U.S. We are also very excited that in 2016; We installed more solar energy systems than any other company in North and South Carolina.

Our strong growth is consistent with our vision to innovate both in how we operate our company and the level of service we offer our customers. This means that we are one of the few companies that do “everything.” Among our primary services, the company designs, permits, finances, sells, installs, maintains and monitors solar energy systems and panels for residential, commercial, utility, and government applications. We also sell, design, and install full roof applications for commercial and residential clients.

We also have a strong focus on making sure every job is done correctly – the first time. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not believe in hiring sub-contractors. Instead, we employ fully licensed electricians, and our team has unlimited GC license, several NABCEP licenses, and a GAF MASTER ELITE ROOFER.

Here at Powerhome our goal and mission is to help our customers have energy independence by selling renewable energy at prices below utility rates. While the power companies continue to raise rates and dictate what a customer owes for power, we believe strongly in offering customers a more practical option. We want our customers to save money day one while helping us create a clean future for our grandchildren.

    Prior to putting up the solar panels, the installers told me that I would soon need a new roof, so I contracted with them to re-roof my house before installing the system. The roofers took some of the soffit off the eaves in order to shingle a part of the house, and then they reinstalled the soffit upside down. The soffit detached and fell off, leaving the attic exposed. I called PowerHome and sent photos of the soffit that had detached. The account manager who was more than happy to talk with me while they were preparing to install the system, told me that the roofing manager told him the soffit issue was not their responsibility. They didn’t send anyone out to look at the roof, and denied responsibility, even though I told them it was a workmanship defect. Even when I explained that a neighboring homebuilder assured me it was a roofing installation mistake; the account manager simply said the roofing manger’s word was law; and refused to discuss the matter further. If you have PowerHome Solar re-roof your house, you may find they don’t take responsibility for shoddy roofing workmanship.

    we used the Cleveland office. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE NO COMMUNICATION BACK. they destroyed our yard with ruts from all the machinery they brought in after it rained after rescheduling the initial install several times. once they finally came in they did a poor job of installing the panels. they are a freestanding set that is legit bending in the middle causing the panels to legit shatter. we have pictures and documents and drone footage to prove all this. we contacted the Cleveland office several times with no communication back. we requested several times for the supervisor to contact us and they have not. the only time y'all contacted us is when we had submitted a BBB complaint. after the complaint was made and we told you several times that a few bags of dirt isn't going to fix this y'all finally send a small crew bags of dirt and hay. when y'all came in it was determined yet again that a landscaping crew needed to come out. we still haven't heard anything about estimates we keep calling and getting the run around. this is a terrible company. then when we ask how much energy our panels are making its 100% operational even-though we have shattered panels. i even went as far as creating a email from your site and sending it out and heard nothing back. I will be posting the photos and videos and review all over social media and the internet to get the word out that this company sucks and does not back the product what so ever.

    If I could give them zero stars I would. I had nothing but problems with PowerHomes. On the first day of the install, one of the workers drilled a 2-inch hole through my siding into our master bathroom. They advised me they would replace the siding and fix the drywall the next time they came out, which could be up to 2 weeks! Who doesn’t want rain inside their home, I asked? I checked my basement to see if I had a piece of siding leftover from when we had our house built. Luckily I did and they replaced the siding that day. As they were cleaning up for the day one of the workers stacked five panels on top of one another. I saw him drop the last one on top of the rest of them. He didn’t lay it down gently treating it like it was a $40,000 system, he dropped it like a piece of plywood. The pieces were scratched, I didn’t know if they were broken. I approached the foreman and told him of the issue. He apologized and advised me that if any of the panels are broken you can see that on the app after the install is complete and that the panels would be covered under the warranty.
    On the second install day, one of their employees fell off our roof, thankfully he was okay and wearing a tag-line! However, he did cause $1,200 worth of damage. I called nearly every day to try and get ahold of someone to schedule a time to have someone fix my deck and gutters. They told me it was going to take at least 2 weeks for someone to call, then 2 more weeks for someone to actually come out. I requested to do the work myself since it was going to take them so long to fix it. They said they would have to ask the “head of customer service”. It took 2 weeks to get a response! That was after I called a local manager, yelled at her, and told her that I was writing this review and seeking legal counsel. She did hang up on me, rightfully so. However, come Monday, since they don’t work weekends, all of my questions were answered. They said they would reimburse me the $1,200 worth of damage and that the service department would call me to troubleshoot why the panels weren’t working. Customer service called later that afternoon. They couldn’t figure it out so they gave me the number to Generac’s customer service. Generac discovered that there was a chip that wasn’t installed or was improperly installed and someone would have to come out to fix it.
    Prior to all of this, I waited 2 weeks for the “MASTER INSPECTOR” to come out after the install was complete to make sure the system was properly set up. He never showed up! I received an email congratulating me that the inspection passed. I called and asked about it. They told me the “master inspector” looked at photos from the install crew and approved it and that nobody was coming out. Apparently they missed the most important part. The chip that allows the solar panels and the powercell, which controls the entire system, weren’t communicating. The PowerHome technician gave me her direct phone line and told me to call back if I had any issues. When I called the phone number the call could not be completed, even 4 days later she still can’t be reached. I had to wait until Monday to call and schedule someone to come out, yet AGAIN! This is the 2nd time someone was scheduled to come out and never did. So now I'm waiting for another week and the issues still aren’t resolved.
    Due to their lack of concern about fixing the problem, I’m going to have to pay the loan for the solar panels, plus an electric bill that shows I didn’t produce any electricity. Customer service was not willing to help push back the first payment of the solar panels so I wouldn’t have two big bills to pay. Thanks a lot, PowerHome. Unfortunately, Generac is associated with this terrible company. I’m sure the products are great but PowerHome is a terrible company. I’ll be contracting any services needed to a different company so I never have to deal with PowerHome Solar again! I hope I said enough for you NOT to go with PowerHomes.

    I had 2 separate appointments scheduled for in home assessment for solar power. Both times no showed up. 1st time no one called , I finally called two days later. Family emergency was the excuse. Rescheduled for today , finally someone called 90 minutes after appointment time. Wow , what do you know another family emergency.

    So l will take my business elsewhere to a company that doesn’t have so many family emergencies.

    We had a hard time with this company. They were nice when they came out and the salesman was informed and laid back. We signed up that day with a three day time from with which we could change our mind without penalty of any kind. We changed our mind based on the all the bad reviews we had read. It took several phone calls and several days to get to a point where we thought it was over. Since then, in December, we have gotten several more calls and text about the loan. One gentleman from a lending agency said his information showed they came to the house and installed the panels and that we were behind on our loan payments. Overall we are still dealing with it four months later. I would not at all recommend doing business with this company. And I'm guessing our reasons are different from those others were read, leaving a long list of problems for Power home solar!

    I signed a contract with them but after I thought about it I canceled it and went with a different company. They wanted to put more insulation in my attic and I already have 20 in of insulation. They wanted to put insulating blanket on my heat pump hot water tank that I thought was unnecessary. They want to give me more LED lights and I have all LED lights in my house. The contract was for a 6K system at $31,000. I got a 9.9 K. system for $29,000. A person definitely needs to get at least three separate estimates before signing

    I was told i would get a check for the rebate for 10,000 and was heavily persuaded into signing pointing out i would have 3 days to cancel if I felt it was not right. After reading bbb complaints the guaranteed check is not it's variable depending on what you make a year. Other red flags started to show in there contract so I emailed the cancellation contract in which he said was fine and so did the contract.
    They tell me no we need a wet signature and that's the only way they will cancel it. That's not what the contract said though i tell them this and they cant just change a contract like that. I was told so what we can do what we want and will continue forward unless we have that within the 3 days the contact says. Got it cancelled though the BBB.

    The loan company called today and explain that if the tax credit was not applied to the loan it would increase our payment by more than 100.00 a month. We had our solar panels installed Saturday and they told me they call to schedule the county to complete the inspection. We still have not got a call and when my husband followed up and asked if we can return the panels the representative said “nope.” And hung up on my husband. Until we have an inspection and have duke install the proper meter we can’t use the panels. They lied about the tax credit and the monthly cost of the loan.

    Nice, polite, cool trucks with fancy stickers, big promises " YOUR ROOF IS PERFECT FOR SOLAR!" The sales people contacted the engineering team while they were here.."ALL O.K." "NO PROBLEM" "CAN DO!". I negotiated a price, sent 1/2 of the cash for the system....NEVER HEARD BACK FOR MONTHS!!!. This company says it has done large stadiums but for some reason they couldn't tackle my little 800 sf flat roof. I felt like a fool. I had architects, neighbors, builders, contractors all lined up to see my fancy solar system...I even contacted other folks around the country and neighborhood about their systems,..I did all the leg work with the local Historical folks. This company did nothing. NO follow up. I complained that I had been dropped. tried to contact board members, company owners, NO RESPONSE. I finally got my money back and an apology and offer to come back out and" re access the situation". I knew it was sounding like a classic bait and switch operation at this point and told them how disappointed I was in their ineptness, lack of professionalism, inability to communicate and false promises and bad contract. I never heard form those two nice sales people. or their "engineers "on the phone. I was a cash customer. BIG TIME DISAPPOINTMENT HERE. I was a yacht broker...can you imagine me taking an order for a new boat and several months later calling the owner who had paid 1/2 up front that his contract was no good and that their order for their new yacht was simply "canceled?"

    Since the installation of our panels in January 2018, we have nothing but bad news from Power Home Solar. Our production was drastically less than what we were told. I have been trying to get them to deal with it for over a year. I just get bounced from person to person. They rarely return emails or calls. I have never written reviews online and almost never complain, but this company is the worst company I have EVER dealt with.

    We went with Power Home Solar and Roofing for a new PV system and a new roof. We're located in Ohio. Overall, their customer service representatives were cordial and got back to our requests within a day. We had lengthy discussions via email on how to take care of issues that always come up with an investment of this size. The salesperson was knowledgeable about their products and seemed to genuinely enjoy his job (with such a ridiculous color of car you have to be... it was the same shade of green as their website logo). Overall the customer service is top notch.

    However, they get a 3 from me due to a series of small errors and factors.

    1. $4.40/W pre-subsidy cost, not counting the loan and the roof, which we'll pay off almost immediately. I didn't realize this at the time but that is waay higher than it needs to be, and our system likely won't pay for itself. This is definitely not a reasonable price for 2018 ($2.75 - $3.50). The marketing costs likely drove the cost up.

    2. Left all their excess roofing supplies in our driveway. A representative said the PV installers would pick up the excess, but now we are told it's ours (and our responsibility to recoup the costs).

    3. Probably due to the above, the roofing rates seemed higher than market price.

    4. We don't get full access to the SolarEdge monitoring interface. This is likely normal for an installer, but I wished to look at the per-panel data so I could keep track of performance (and potentially invoke warranties) myself.

    Ignoring the above issues, their crews came out and did their jobs, in and out within a day. Overall seemed like a well-polished, high-quality installation, but time always tells with those things. If you're more knowledgeable than I was at the time, definitely consider haggling with these folks.

    I requested a quote through EnergySage and within a couple hours Power Home Solar sent me a quote. After reviewing the quote, I asked them to revise the parameters of the quote and the turnaround time was great.

    Unfortunately, I chose to go with another company because the value for the money and the quality of the materials were better.

    My experience Has been very positive. They were flexible with scheduling the installation and showed up exactly when they said they were going to. They arrived at 8:30 and we completed with installing 18 panels and the entire system by 2 o’clock. The entire crew was professional and polite and answer any questions that I had. There was a problem with the nest thermostat but Herb and Shannon helped to take care of it. I am waiting for the local inspection and look forward to getting the system up and running.
