POWERHOME SOLAR - Profile & Reviews

POWERHOME SOLAR, headquartered in North Carolina, is one of the nation’s leading residential providers of solar energy. After launching in 2014, POWERHOME SOLAR has grown to nearly 1,800 employees across the company’s 15 markets that include Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia, with plans to open in more markets this year.

In 2020, POWERHOME SOLAR's revenue grew 95% year-over-year to $365 million. The company’s growth can be attributed to its passionate and aggressive management team and its employees’ desire to make a difference in customers’ lives by giving them affordable access to clean, renewable solar energy.

POWERHOME SOLAR has achieved this growth in some markets not prominently known for high solar utilization, proving the appetite for renewable energy is strong and financially appealing in a variety of markets. It is one of the few companies in the industry that designs, permits, sells and installs solar energy systems for residential and commercial clients.

POWERHOME SOLAR has partnerships with four professional sports franchises, which include the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers. It has a fifth partnership with NC State Athletics. These partnerships help each entity reduce dependence on grid energy and decrease their carbon footprints. They also help raise consumer awareness about the features and benefits of solar energy, creating a ripple effect for potential customers throughout the country.

POWERHOME SOLAR has built partnerships with brands beyond sports. In 2020, the company partnered with Generac, a Fortune 1000 company, to offer customers its battery storage products. Additionally, POWERHOME SOLAR appeared on the Lifetime TV series “Military Makeover” in 2020, as it donated and installed a solar energy system for a veteran in suburban Atlanta. POWERHOME SOLAR was also on the show in 2018, when it helped another veteran in suburban Kansas City, Missouri.

POWERHOME SOLAR's rallying slogan is Building A Movement, or BAM, as it grows one solar panel, one customer, and one employee at a time. POWERHOME SOLAR's employees understand the value and importance of what they offer customers, making their purpose clear and the company culture strong.

I signed a contract to have PowerHome install a system that included panels and battery backup. The system installed 30 panels to provide a 58% reduction of my average usage of 1500 kWh. That equates to an average of 870 kWh/month. They installed the system last fall in Aug that reduced the amount of electricity consumed in August and produced for its first full billing cycle from September into October. Each of those months had approximately $100 lower electric bills which also had one of my lowest utility bills that led me to believe I had made the right decision to install the system. Since then the results have not met my expectations. Starting in October, my usage had gone back to about the same levels of usage before installing the system, 1300-1750 kWh/month. I finally called customer support in March to share my concern about the lack of results. I called again in April to report an error on the REbus of the Generac inverter. A technician came and identified the source of the fault. Additionally, the technician said the inverter only saw 14 of 30 panels but did nothing to diagnose the panels themselves. The identified fault was with the battery management unit (BMU) and needed to order the part. Another technician came to install the BMU and finally diagnosed the panels and found two bad panels. The technician didn't have any panels to replace the faulty panels. Another technician will come later this week (end of June) to replace them. That makes at least three months that the system hasn't worked properly from when I made the first call. In the last two weeks, I shared my utility bills and a spreadsheet identifying the exact savings over the previous year's usage. I have experienced less than $100 savings and have a payment due each month over twice the savings. As part of sharing the bills for analysis, I asked how PowerHome will compensate me for the poor results, especially for the lost production because of the faulty components. As of today, I had to call again to talk to the same representative that I talked to two weeks ago. I tried several times over the two weeks and told I would get a call from the representative that didn't happen. The answer I received today was that they still hadn't finalized the offer. I CANNOT recommend PowerHome to anyone no matter how large the referral bonus they want to provide. PowerHome has a tag line of "Own your power". My power owns me because it has cost me SIGNIFICANTLY more each month now than before installing the system. I wish I had chosen another provider than PowerHome. I definitely recommend that you do based on my experience.

Just don't do it.. go with your gut when dealing with these folks. Customer service is only a concern when they want you to sign on the dotted line. Once you have signed the contract, it is simply one problem after another and it never ends. We installed solar panels last year, late 2020, with a cost of $48,000. They've already had to write one check to us because for 3 months the panels were not working (we tried repeatedly to tell them, but they wouldn't listen to us and kept handing us off to different departments). Today we learned the system has not been working properly since the first week of April 2021, it is now the last week of May, and they are telling us it's going to be another month before they can have a technician out to our home to investigate why....we live in the same state, less than 1 1/2 hrs away! This is completely unacceptable and clear fraud. Bottom line, they get what they want from you and then you are left on your own to maneuver technical issues you never anticipated. My husband and I are approaching 50 yrs old and can honestly say trusting PowerHome Solar is the worst mistake we ever made in our life. The power bill is only a few dollars cheaper each month, and you're stuck with an additional loan payment, in our case to the tune of $48,000. To say we are sick about this is an understatement. We are educated individuals who were manipulated and lied to. As a result, we are now paying the price for trusting and failing to educate ourselves about this company. If we can help one person/family from making the same mistakes we have made, then hopefully our struggle and monetary loss will not be in vain.
