Solar Liberty

Nothing in life is guaranteed. That is what potential customers for a solar panel array should be reminding themselves before they sign the installation contract with any company to provide green/alternative energy sources for their home/business. The bottom line is that there are many aspects of nature that will impact the way the solar panels work and none of them fall under the control of Solar Liberty. The installer can't control how many days of sunlight my zip code receives. The installer can't control power surges and outages. Nobody is perfect. There are ways that Solar Liberty can improve their services. However, they are no worse than any other solar company out there, and they're honestly much better than most of them - hence my hiring them for my solar panel installation.

Update 17May2024: Adam, the president of Solar Liberty, immediately reached out and apologized for my experience and is working with me to rectify the problems mentioned in my original review. Based on how things are resolved, I will update again. Update 19Jun2024: Solar Liberty has worked to address my issues so I am making a revised review. My initial experience I had with Solar Liberty directly was limited. The sales team was helpful, but once their local team (run by Adam's sister) showed up to install, the experience hit a rough patch. I wasn't completely happy with the install. The biggest issue was the sloppy install of the shutoff switch in my garage. The SL team did a great job addressing this issue and it looks much better now (thanks Vinnie and Dylan). Overall, Solar Liberty was a solid choice, but some things that kept it from being perfect, in addition to the trouble that was ultimately resolved above: The overall look of the install is bare metal conduit along the roof over dark shingles and looks too industrial . Adam has offered to provide painting to resolve this issue, but the trust in the team was broken and we've gotten used to the look and are concerned that overall maintenance of the paint wear could end up looking worse over time. To their credit, during install the team found there was room to fit another panel on my main roof and offered to move one to take advantage of the best solar potential. They proposed a move but I was only able to think about it for a minute and after the fact I regret the taking their choice because they moved 1 panel from the mid roof to the main instead of moving one of the lowest priority locations to the main roof (my fault for not correcting them but I trusted they should be the experts!).

My panels became active in mid June of 2023. In the last 10 months, only 4 bills showed a need to draw from the grid and those were covered by what I had "banked" from previous months. My billing from February 7 - March 8, which is a cold time in Buffalo, NY, showed that I actually generated 67KWH more than I needed! When my gas dryer is shot, I will replace it with an electric one and will be looking to replace my car with some type of plugin when it goes.

Solar Liberty design, quoted, installed (and would service if it is required) my 14 panel solar system. They designed it based upon my usage and then took into account my future plans of wanting to charge an EV at my house. I am generating excess kWhr that I will be able to use in the future. The system was installed in 2 days. It was neat and clean. I was provided an app for my phone that allows me to see current and past operation. People told me they have never experienced an issue, and after 11 months of operation I can see why. There has not been one issue. I was also surprised about winter operation. Snow accumulated during storms but quickly slid off the panels. There is less generation during the winter but I think most of this is due to being the days with the least amount of sun. I know Solar Liberty will be there in the future when and if I need them. I think the first time they will return to my house will be when I increase the number of panels in my system. I highly recommend Solar Liberty. They are professional, provide the best product, and let you know what to expect during the whole process.

We have not pulled the trigger yet to have the solar panels installed yet due to the fact that we should have a new roof put on first. But, I must say that Solar Liberty is very professional and collects all of your data and in turn provides you with: Your System Specific Specifications including module wattage, module count and your inverter. A overhead picture/view of your house with the solar panels installed (pretty cool). They also include an overhead picture/view of your house and surrounding area showing everything around your house to show any possible shade areas and the areas that will get the most sunlight (again pretty cool). And a graph showing your monthly consumption vs. the estimated production. A 1 through 25 year breakdown of your total return on your investment along with the same for the potential added resale value to your home. Solar Liberty will do all of the research to find you all of the possible rebates and discounts and low interest loans to help make this as financially possible for you as well. Plus Solar Liberty will take all the time you need to explain everything in detail to you and answer ALL of your questions. And there is no pressure in you deciding either, you can take your time in thinking about it and keep on contacting them and asking questions and they keep on answering your questions and very politely too. I just can't say enough about Solar Liberty as they are a very professional, honest company with a lot of integrity and down to earth home town people. Who does their best to do the best for you!

Solar Liberty was great to work with. They were helpful in explaining all of our options and clear about pricing. The installation crew was professional and fast and did a great job including cleaning up when they were done.
