I have had my solar panels for 6 years. I was told they would save me money. It has cost me more instead. National Grid still charges me a delivery charge when I am not using their electric. The solar panels do not generate that much electric. The panels do not work 4 months out of the year when there is snow on them. I am selling my house. The new owners do not want the solar panels. Since I had to sign a 20 year lease my choices were limited. I could buy out the panels for 19,000 dollars and then pay extra to have them removed. I don’t know where I could discard them. Or, I could prepay the remainder 14 years of the lease and let the owners have free electricity without the monthly bill which was 79.81 a month. The new owners consented to the 2 nd choice. That cost me almost 10,000. Ask me if I saved money by having solar panels? It was a gamble I took when I had them installed. In hindsight, I wished I had never done it.
I have a 4KW PV installed since 11/10 and a Sunward Solar Hot Water system installed since 8/12. Both systems work great. CNY Solar did a great job on the install and took care of all the permits and paper work to file for the NYSERDA state rebate. Solar does work, even in less than sunny Upstate NY.
