Battery failed within 5 years; Enphase service is terrible.

Installed a system on 17 panels and 5 batteries. One battery failed after having the system for about 5 years. Enphase service runaround told us to get installer to diagnose. Installer said would cost $300 for site visit. Enphase told us we needed to have the installer electrician come out because they didn't have any technicians in our area. The installer called Enphase to confirm that they wanted the installer electrician to come to the site, even tho a technician had not come. Enphase confirmed that they needed the installer to come to the site. Once at the site, the electrician diagnosed the battery failure. Enphase said that they needed the technician to see the system before they'd accept the diagnosis from the installer electrician. The installer spent the time at our site on the phone with Enphase, who gave him the runaround. Enphase told us WE needed to pay for the installer electrician, since we didn't have the technician come out first. Nevermind the prior conversations. All of the Enphase phone support is from India. They seemed sympathetic to our issues, but the upper management holds firm in their nonsense. So we are out the $300 for the installer visit, the technician finally came after 4 weeks of us trying to get him to come, and now presumably we need to wait for the electrician to return to confirm the diagnosis from the technician. Who knows when or if we'll get the lemon battery replaced. The installer said "almost no one" is installing Enphase systems anymore due to reliability and issues like this. Everyone is going with Tesla... Wish we had, for sure.

The Complete System Better Than I Expected

I started with a grid-tied system with Enphase microinverters, solar panels and a Combiner 5C. As I learned more about Enphase products and how well they integrate with each other and the Enphase app, I added a System Controller 3G with programmable load shedding, three 5P batteries, an EV Charger 2 and a Kohler backup generator to recharge the batteries as needed during a long grid outage. Now it's a completely automatic whole home backup system that's fully visible and controllable from a single integrated phone app or computer webpage. The data displays and export capabilities are great, including EV charging. I ' m very happy with the system and Enphase support, both corporate and local certified installer. If I were to replicate this capability a few more years down the road, I would consider paring a compatible EV with an Enphase DC bi-directional EV charger instead of the backup generator. I didn't want to wait that long, and am glad I have the extended grid outage capability now, with the generator.

If you take there online classes you can easily install yourself. There online help is usually fast and easy to get a hold of. There app lets you see your system easily and you can set it to do what you want.

Problem Fixed

We had two microinverters that weren't reporting so we contacted Enphase to send a technician out to check into them. The technician arrived when they said he would and was able to repair the problem immediately. Very professional and communicated the issue. We will use them again and again. Thank you!
