EnergySage Shopper
Friendly Customer Service, Top Quality, Great Value

We selected Solar Tech for our solar installation amongst the seven solar quotes that we received on EnergySage. Solar Tech offered the best price on a SunPower X21 Equinox system (relative to the other premium system EnergySage quotes as well as other SunPower dealer quotes) with no haggling, which I appreciated. We also decided to do a main electrical panel upgrade, which they handled very well. The installation was quick, efficient, and performed with high craftsmanship. I believe that SolarTech offers the best value for a residential solar install in San Diego County, and I would highly recommend them.

Great to Work With

Solar Tech was easy to work with and straight forward in communicating all the details of the project. I would recommend them to a friend (in fact I have). Also, their pricing was clearly the best for my project.

Poor communication and follow. Lost net metering 2

had an existing solar system on net metering 2. They said they would add solar panels and a couple batteries without having my net Metering status change. They also said it would include a $1500 Visa gift card as part of a promotion. When it was initially installed and when it was not hot, the AC was not being used a lot so the first bill was actually OK. Since it has been hot, the bills have shot up to higher than expected. That is when I started to investigate and figure out what was going on. . Upon looking at my bill, I realize that I was being charged on the solar billing plan, which is Net metering 3 plan. No one from the company had followed up to tell me that this had happened. The original sales rep aaron Was the one who had made these plans, acting as a middleman salesperson with Solartech. Aaron has gone radio silence and has ignored emails about my complaint of my net meeting status changing and also about the company not living up to their promise of the reimbursement with the $1500 Visa gift card. I have been emailing and calling, trying to understand if my old solar system works with the batteries or not and Where that power is going. I spoke to a rep and he told me that indeed my old solar system was not connected to the batteries, which I was not informed of, and makes absolutely no sense. If it is not connected to the batteries then where is this power going then now? I asked them that question and he promised that someone would follow up. He did send a follow up email CCing, the correct people, and so far no one has reached out. I am very disappointed with my experience with this company. . So far, it has been empty promises and I have lost net metering 2 which at this point causes me to pay more for my energy, Because I get way less for the energy that I generate to the grid.

Lack of support and ongoing issues unresolved

When we purchased our solar, we were assured that it would generate nearly 20kWh with the number of panels installed. We were also told the system would be monitored, & if any issues arose, the company would notify us & resolve them promptly. The installation was completed after Christmas 2024, & began producing energy for our home & sending excess power back to APS. Soon after being told the system was up & running, we received an email from the solar company stating they needed to return & install additional MCIs because our solar panels were producing more power than the system could handle. After this first repair, we were contacted again & informed that more MCIs would need to be added, as our system still was not performing as expected. Despite these interventions, we received a notification from Tesla that our PV string was out, indicating a significant issue with our solar production. We attempted to contact SolarTech multiple times to address this problem. On one occasion, a technician was sent out, but we discovered he did not have the proper certification to work on our system. Subsequently, workers returned to add MCIs once more. During this visit, we captured video evidence of the contracting manager instructing the crew to lie to us about a problem affecting six of our solar panels, telling them to claim the issue was fixed without disclosing the truth. Following this incident, we spoke with the service manager, scheduling manager, & contracting manager. They scheduled service appointments on six separate occasions, but each time, the crew failed to show up & did not call to notify us. After each missed appointment, we were never proactively contacted by the company; it has been up to us to call repeatedly & leave voicemails until someone finally responded. When we did reach someone, we were given excuses for the missed appointments & told we would simply have to wait until they could address our issue. Throughout this entire period, we have been receiving APS bills because our solar system has not been generating the energy we were promised & paid for. Despite informing the company of these ongoing financial impacts, we have not received the level of support or urgency that was promised at the time of purchase.

SolarTech's Disappointing Service: Job Abandonment, Neglect, Poor Workmanship

I experienced absolute disappointment with Solartech due to their outright job abandonment. While they swiftly installed the system, the project was left hanging, neglected. Despite my relentless attempts to obtain information on the RMA installation by SDGE, they remained shockingly unresponsive for weeks. I had to take charge and contact SDGE myself to ensure any progress. Out of nowhere, Solartech unexpectedly appeared for a city inspection after two months, even though the project wasn't close to being ready. This forced the inspection to be canceled. In a conference call with their VP of Operations, I learned that they blamed an employee's departure for the chaos. But internal issues should never justify their neglect of duty and customer care. We chose Solartech despite their not being the cheapest option, assuming we'd receive top-notch service. However, they massively let us down. Their offer of a mere $500 discount feels like a slap in the face for the hassle and inconvenience we've faced. And to add insult to injury, they left unsealed holes on our property, a clear sign of substandard workmanship that only amplified our dissatisfaction. Another significant issue was their failure to explain the solar panels and battery system, despite numerous inquiries. Promises were made time and again to provide crucial details, but they were never followed through. Solartech's negligence and false promises not only fell short but created a complete inconvenience and headache. Their inability to navigate internal changes without adversely impacting their clients is alarming. Considering the hefty price tag we paid, expecting quality service, we didn't even receive a deal. It's not worth the risk.
